Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can you perform the legal aspect of our marriage?

Yes! I am a Registered Solemniser and I am authorised to conduct legal marriage ceremonies throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, under the Rites and Ceremonies of Entheos. I can hold your ceremony at your chosen venue at any time of the day and on any day of the week (including weekends and bank holidays).

  • How do I book you for a ceremony?

When you first contact me and if I have availability for your date, I will arrange a free no obligation video consultation, so we can see if I am the right fit for your ceremony. If we get on, and you want to go ahead with booking me, then, you pay a booking fee, and I secure your date in my diary. The balance is then payable 2 weeks before the ceremony.

For funerals, you can contact me directly or get the funeral director you are working with to contact me to book.

  • Are your ceremonies Catholic, Humanist, Spiritualist, Pagan or other?

None of the above. As a Celebrant with Entheos, we are classified as a non-denominational Religious Body, which gives me the freedom to perform ceremonies for people of all faiths and none. I do not reference any particular deity or belief system unless specifically requested to do so, and I am very happy to incorporate rituals from traditional faith paths if you wish. I have no agenda with regard to the content of your ceremony, and I can include whatever language, music and readings you would like. I also have no requirement to speak about our organisation during your ceremony.

I am committed to fostering inclusivity and accessibility, so no couple would ever be refused on the grounds of any diversity of gender, orientation, colour, nationality, ability, religion, non-religion, financial status, culture or any other reason within the bounds of Irish law.

If you require a translator or any assistance with accessibility please let me know, I am very happy to support you however I can.

  • How do we register our intent to marry?

In Ireland, all couples must visit a HSE Registrar to register their Intent to Marry, NO LESS THAN THREE MONTHS prior to their intended wedding date. At this meeting, you will be asked for the names and details of both spouses, both witnesses (over 18 years), my details, your venue and your intended date. You will then be given your Marriage Registration Form (MRF) usually in a green folder, which you will bring with you on your wedding day.  I will request this in advance of the ceremony in order to check and confirm that all details are correct. During the ceremony it will be signed by me, both spouses and both witnesses, and it is your responsibility to return it to the HSE Registrar’s office within 30 days of your ceremony.

Further details are available from the HSE website.

  • Is there anything we must include in our ceremony?

Is there anything we MUST include in our ceremony?

If your marriage is to be Solemnised, you and your intended spouse must make two declarations during the ceremony, in the presence of me and your witnesses:

That you do not know of any impediment to the marriage

That you accept each other as husband / wife / spouse

Beyond this, I have no requirement to mention any particular words during your ceremony, nor do I need to mention Entheos – the words will all be as you wish, and I will use whatever words and pronouns you and your spouse prefer.

  • How long will our ceremony last?

  • How do we obtain our marriage certificate?

You will retain the paperwork (in the green folder) on the day of your ceremony. (You might consider nominating a responsible adult to ensure it is put away safely, immediately after the ceremony!) You must return the MRF (Marriage Registration Form) within one month to a Registrar, for the marriage to be registered. Under Section 50 of the Civil Registration Act 2004, if the completed MRF (Marriage Registration Form) is not returned to a Registrar within 56 days of the intended date of marriage recorded on the MRF, the Registrar can serve a notice on you requiring you to return the MRF within 14 days of receiving the notice. It is very important that you ensure the paperwork is returned as you cannot get your civil marriage certificate until the marriage is registered.
